HOLLAND PARK

Kensington, London, UK

Pre-construction stage.

We have obtained planning permission for a house on a piece of unused open land. The house has a discreet translucent glazed structure at street level. This is the entrance, and leads to the main area of the house which is arranged on two lower levels around courtyard gardens which bring natural light and vegetation into the heart of the house. Large areas of the roof of the house are planted with shrubs and flowering plants.

The design of the house is intended to soften the transition between the 1960’s block of flats and its high-level car park, and the surrounding houses and their gardens at a lower-level. The architecture is contemporary and much consideration has been given to the impact of the proposals on the setting of the Victorian villas so as to improve the Conservation Area.
