MENDOZA HOUSE

Palace Gardens Terrace, London, UK

A Kensington stucco-fronted house that was converted from apartments back to its former use as a family house. Hallways and corridors were eliminated to open up the spaces, and the original stone staircase, discovered during demolition, was restored. The new layout of the rooms is uncomplicated. The raised ground floor living room is a single space opening onto the terrace and garden at the back. The upper floors of the house appear to be supported exclusively by a single steel column in the living room. The kitchen, bathrooms, and some pieces of furniture were designed specially for the house.

The house has now been sold and achieved a record price for the area.
