“THE POP ART SHOW”

Exhibition Design - Royal Academy of Arts, London, UK. 1991

Sophie Hicks designed this exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts while still a student at the Architectural Association. Invited to do so by the exhibitions secretary Norman Rosenthal in order to bring a fresh eye to the exhibition design. She transformed the galleries by making them completely white. Parquet floors were covered with white linoleum and door frames with white scrim. All to provide a clean and undistracting background for the seminal American Pop Art works on display. The exhibition was curated by Marco Livingstone, the leading authority in Pop Art. 1991.
