MUGLER

Réel, Shanghai, China

The first Mugler store to house fashion and perfume. The first Mugler store in China.

We have designed every detail down to the individual perfume stands, in collaboration with Mugler Creative Director Casey Cadwallader.

The architecture is sharp, with angled fins and louvres echoing the strong energy of the Mugler fashion shows and films. This forceful energy is tempered with misty smoked glass through which perfumes and bags look mysterious and soft light escapes. The blue anodised aluminium is a new elaboration of the iconic Mugler blue and this brushed blue metal showcases the precious products. The Mugler name is written in silvery chrome whose light shimmers against its blue background.

Casey asked us to design a perfume stand inspired by bismuth crystals. Simplifying the crystal structure, we developed a precisely machined stand to elevate the small perfume bottles. It showcases each individual perfume together with its own dropper – an extractable wand housing dry perfume granules – and an integrated light illuminates the bottle from below. The stands are made at the factory of Rizoma, famous for their engineered motorcycle mirrors.

As the store will only last for one year in Réel, Shanghai, it has been designed in pieces so that it can be taken down and erected elsewhere.
